Assistive Technology: Showcasing New Technology

Our Fringe at LibDem 2026 Spring Conference in York was on the subject of Assistive Technology: Showcasing New Technology that can really make a difference in how people live their lives. We explored the state of the art, and the barriers to adoption of technology, at home, in care and community settings, and the world beyond. We showed a montage of technologies from a number of different providers in different areas to demonstrate the technology that is making a difference.

Dr Grace Whitfield (Centre for Care and University of Sheffield) provided updates on her recent research and findings in the area, including the barriers to adoption and empathy with the users of technology. with Dr Katharine Macy, Chair, LibDem Disability Association providing a perspective from the world of work. The session was chaired by Chris Lomax, Chair LibSTEMM. Members were particularly enthused and informed during the session.
